Hugo Chavez, left-wing Venezuelan president, ally of Iranian Islamic theocracy, gets autocratic powers, Internet censorship laws and pro-government supreme court judges

CARACAS, Venezuela – Venezuelan lawmakers granted President Hugo Chavez broad powers Friday to enact laws [involving telecommunications, the banking system, information technology, the military, rural and urban land use and the country's "socio-economic system"] by decree, […] without consulting lawmakers […] for 18 months.

Chavez has argued he needs decree powers to fast-track funds to help the victims of recent floods and landslides, and also to hasten Venezuela's transition to a socialist state.

Another measure under discussion Friday was the revised "Social Responsibility Law," which would impose broadcast-type regulations on the Internet and ban online messages "that could incite or promote hatred," create "anxiety" in the population or "disrespect public authorities."

Chavez has enjoyed near total control of the National Assembly since the opposition boycotted 2005 elections.

That is set to change when the new congress takes office with 67 of the 165 seats controlled by the opposition — enough to prevent Chavez from having the two-thirds majority needed to approve some types of major legislation and to confirm Supreme Court justices.

Anticipating that shift, pro-Chavez lawmakers earlier this month appointed nine new Supreme Court justices, reinforcing the dominance of judges widely seen as friendly to his government.

Opposition groups say the timing of the "Enabling Law," as it is known, is deeply cynical.

The opposition fear Mr Chavez will use the powers to move Venezuela closer to a left-wing dictatorship.

Newly elected opposition congressman Julio Borges said the enabling law had one single aim: "to give more power to the government and take power away from the people".

But the opposition would keep fighting to make sure the "Cuban project" would fail, he said.

The 18-month period means the opposition will be largely excluded from policy-making until the middle of 2012, just months before Venezuela's next presidential election.

Left-wing totalitarianism and Islamofascism are the same. One is secular and the other is religious (Islamic) but they are both fascist ideologies.

This is why religion (Christianity) hating leftists are always allying themselves with Islamic theocratic fascists.

Islamists have their religious blasphemy laws and the leftists have secular (atheist) blasphemy laws.

Chavez's blasphemy law is based on the usual elements (also found in the false taboo of 'Islamophobia' and other 'hate labels' they assign dissenters and heretics) of fighting 'hate', 'anxiety' and 'disrespect' of authorities. Very typical.

Disagreeing or criticizing their left-wing and politically correct 'dogma' will now become the blasphemy of 'hate', telling the truth will be censored on the grounds that it will cause 'anxiety' and criticizing authorities will become 'disrespect'.

Everyone should watch out. This is exactly what liberal-left in the West also wants to impose.
