15 civilians, including children, dead, 4 wounded after truck they were traveling on hit roadside bomb – “enemies of Afghanistan” Taliban blamed

The 15 civilians died when the truck they were travelling in from Khair Abad village to Khansheen district in Helmand province was hit by a homemade device late on Friday, provincial spokesman Daud Ahmadi told AFP.

"The blast killed 15 civilians and wounded another four," he said, adding that children were among the dead.

Ahmadi said the "barbaric attack" was the work of "enemies of Afghanistan", a term often used to refer to Taliban insurgents.

The number of ordinary Afghans killed in the conflict rose by a third in the first six months of 2010 to 1271, with most deaths caused by insurgent attacks, the UN said in August.

Afghans are set to take over security from the NATO led troops in the country by 2014.

Comments: Daud Ahmadi wasn't exaggerating when he called the attack “barbaric”. The Taliban have been know to engage in other barbaric behavior, such as ordering the nose and ears of Aisha to be cut off for running away from beatings and abuse by her in-laws.

Terrorists killing civilians, including women and children, is also nothing new. See related stories below for some other examples.

Naive anti-war supporters and Islamists are always concerned, exaggerate and outraged about Muslim civilian casualties in anti-terror or anti-insurgent operations (even when terrorists are responsible for them by hiding among civilians) but are silent when reckless or deliberate attacks by terrorists case civilian deaths. Another double-standards.
