Somali pirates get a record US 9 million dollars in ransom for oil tanker Samho Dream, and are getting more violent

The pirates are said to have received either $US 91 or 9.5 million2  for release of the South Korean oil tanker, Samho Dream.  They also were paid $2.8m for the Singapore flagged ship, Golden Blessing.2

A UN report said pirates successfully captured 37 ships in the first ten months of this year, compared to 33 for the same period last year.1 It also said there were signs that "the level of violence employed by the pirates has increased".1

[Wonder if they will now go shopping for new weapons like Al-Qaeda in North Africa (AQIM) did after receiving ransom money? Giving in to terror will simply make it worst.]
