Lawyer Allah Bakhsh Leghari said "We argued that since the death sentence given by the trial court to Aasia Bibi has yet to be confirmed or rejected by the high court, the president could not use his power at this stage."2
The ruling was issued by the top court of Pakistan's Punjab province2 [where her appeal is being heard].
President Asif Ali Zardari has earlier said that he might pardon Asia if her appeal drags through the courts for too long.1
