Sri Lankan maid D. M. Chandima claims she was forced to swallow six nails by her employer in Jordan1 when she demanded her salary.2

In a similar case a few days ago, another Sri Lankan, Lechchami, 38, claimed her employers in Kuwait hammered 14 nails into her when she also demanded her salary.3

And in August, yet another Sri Lankan, T. Ariyawathi, also claimed her Saudi Arabian employers hammered 24 nails into her as punishment.3

Nisha Varia of Human Rights Watch said "reports of physical abuse, sexual abuse, and labour exploitation such as non-payment of wages are nothing new" and called on the governments of those countries to take allegations seriously and make it easier to report abuse.2
