Saudi security forces shot dead a suspected al Qaeda militant and arrested another after one of them opened fire at agents at a checkpoint on Friday, the interior ministry said.

One of the two men, who was disguised as a woman, opened fire after their car was stopped at the checkpoint in the central town of Wadi al-Dawasir, said Mansour al-Turki, the ministry's security spokesman.

The Dec 8 event involving 200 females from six Jeddah private high schools broke ministry rules against girls' sports in schools, a ministry official said.

Women's access to sports overall is tightly constricted in Saudi Arabia, which is governed according to an ultra-strict version of Islam. Women cannot participate in the Saudi Olympics team, and are not allowed to attend public football matches.

While a few women-only private clubs and private women's universities offer sporting possibilities, sports are prohibited at primary and secondary schools for girls.

The real revelation from these leaks is the absence of any mention by the polite PC diplomats of the religion of Islam or Muslims and their culture, and the role they play in all of the world's problems.

Or could it be that WikiLeaks did not leak any critical assessment of Islam, Muslims or their culture?

There is no hope of a solution unless the problem is honestly and truthfully stated.

 An investigation by BBC's 'Panorama' program has found that around 5,000 school children in around 40 schools across the U.K. are being taught from textbooks with Islamic extremist content.³

 Some of these texts used during part-time weekend schools⁴ when Muslim children are taught Saudi national curriculum² teaches that

some Jews were transformed into pigs and apes⁵   

the "main goal" of the Jews is to "have control over the world and its resources."¹

asks children to list the "reprehensible" qualities of Jewish people²

describes the punishment for gay sex as death and states a difference of opinion about whether it should be carried out by stoning, burning with fire or throwing the person over a cliff.²

advises: "For thieves their hands will be cut off for a first offence, and their foot for a subsequent offence."¹

The specified punishment of the thief is cutting off his right hand at the wrist.¹

including detailed diagrams about how hands and feet of thieves are amputated.²

 The schools are part of the "Saudi Students Clubs and Schools in the UK and Ireland" organization¹ but the Saudi government denies endorsing or having ties to it.²

 The director of the clubs and schools network however said that it was under the control the Saudi Cultural Bureau, which is part of the Saudi embassy.²

 Asked by the BBC about the findings of the Panorama program contained in a documentary titled “British Schools Muslim Rules,”⁴ the Saudi embassy said

such materials were often taken out of context and often referred to historical descriptions.²

 Three years ago, the BBC also found extremist text books that refers to Christians and Jews in derogatory terms at a West London school funded by the Saudis. That discovery led to a Saudi promise then to remove those books.²

 Dr Usama Hasan, an Islamic scholar and part-time imam in east London, warned that lack of interaction between and non-Muslims means “ingredients of the western world” are not learnt by young Muslims²

“so it's very easy for them to read the medieval texts which were written at a time when Islam was under attack and say non-believers are our enemies and we have to fight them."²

Comment: Note the “out of context” argument from the Saudi embassy, and “Islam was under attack” argument from Hasan.  

 The case for amputations seems fairly clear as stated in the Koran 5:38, "As for the thief, both male and female, cut off their hands. ... Allah is Mighty, Wise."  Hard to see how it could possibly be "out of context."

 As for Jews being turned into pigs and apes, it seems to be based on the Koran 5:59-60

5:59 Say: "O people of the Book! Do ye disapprove of us for no other reason than that we believe in Allah, and the revelation that hath come to us and that which came before (us), and (perhaps) that most of you are rebellious and disobedient?" 

5:60 Say: "Shall I point out to you something much worse than this, (as judged) by the treatment it received from Allah? those who incurred the curse of Allah and His wrath, those of whom some He transformed into apes and swine, those who worshipped evil;- these are (many times) worse in rank, and far more astray from the even path!" 

 The verses here are do not appear as clear as that for chopping off the hands but still, and this is something to remember, there is a credible basis in the Koran for such an interpretation. It is not something that's created out of thin air. There is at least some basis for such interpretations, if not more or a lot.

 And in the case of "Islam was under attack" or 'Defensive' jihad argument, it seems quite clear that not all of Muhammad's wars could possibly have been defensive. Did he really need to conquer the Arabian peninsula? And why did his immediate successors, who must have known first hand what Muhammad meant about jihad, invade the lands of Christians and Pagans - something which continued throughout history and only stopping when Muslims were weak?

 Also try to see if there might be any link between children being taught such violent materials and the violence inflicted on the foreign maids in Saudi Arabia, such as the recent case of Kikim and Sumiati that was posted here only hours ago.

 Indonesian maid⁷ Kikim Komalasari binti Uko Marta,¹⁰ 36,⁴ from Cianjur, West Java,⁸ was allegedly 'killed by her employers and her body dumped on a roadside'⁴ in Saudi Arabia.  Other reports say her body was dumped in 'garbage skip'⁹ or at 'a dumpster.'¹⁰

 Indonesia's labour minister Muhaimin Iskandar said her 'neck had been slashed and she had severe cuts to the rest of her body.'⁴

 Anis Hidayah, executive director of a local NGO Migrant Care, said she allegedly was 'sexually and physically abused before her death.'¹⁰

 This comes only a few days after news emerged that another Indonesian maid, Sumiati binti Salan Mustapa, 23, from Dompu in West Nusa Tenggara,⁶  was admitted to a hospital unconscious after being tortured by the wife of her employer.⁵

 Sumiati said she was mistreated by the daughter and frequently beaten severely and burned with hot iron by the wife.⁵

 Her injuries were so severe that she needed to be transferred from a private hospital to King Fahad Hospital to receive the required care.⁵

 Miea Mirlina from King Fahad said

"her body was burned on many places, both legs were almost motionless, some parts of her skin on her head were removed and strong marks of old wounds were on her body including skin loss on lips and head, a fractured middle finger and a cut near an eye. Her body shows how badly she was treated."⁵

 Didi Wahyudi, head of the citizen service and protection task force of the Indonesian Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, said concerning the attacker that⁶

"She was jealous of Sumiati who is young and beautiful so she tortured her"⁶

 Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Indonesia, Abdulrahman Al-Khayyat, claimed what happened to Sumiati was "a very rare case."¹⁰

 This claim has been described as "deceitful" by Anis, who said his organization has recorded 5,563 allegations of abuse this year in Saudi Arabia, including 1,090 physical abuse, 3,568 poor working conditions and 898 sexual and nonpayment of salary cases.¹⁰

 Saudi Arabia calims 'foreign workers' rights are protected under Islamic law'⁴ but Amnesty International's Malcolm Smart said "legal climate of impunity that allows employers to exploit, enslave, abuse, assault and injure their domestic workers with virtual impunity" exists in the Gulf states and has called for it to end.²

 Human Rights Watch also said workers in Saudi Arabia have few rights and that the 'abuse is systemic' but is "hidden" in people's homes.⁴

 There has been outrage in Indonesia over the abuses with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono saying the murder of Kikim was "beyond inhumane"⁴ and calling Sumiati's abuse an "extraordinary torture."³

 AFP however added that,¹

Indonesia's outrage at the abuse of Sumiati stands in contrast to its muted official response to widespread allegations of torture by its own security forces against peaceful political activists and other detainees.¹

Human rights groups accuse the Indonesian military of killings, murder, torture and abuse of Papua's ethnic Melanesian majority and separatists in the Maluku islands.¹

In the latest incident, soldiers were caught on video torturing Papuan civilians earlier this year but no one has been held responsible.¹ [Hyperlink added]

Comment: Things to note here are the inadequacies of 'Islamic law', the hypocritical outrage among some Indonesians, 'denialism' by the Saudis and another hint of a possible underlying culture of violence in sections of those societies.

 The abuse cases indicate that 'Islamic law' is open to abuse here, just as it was in the case of the Pakistani blasphemy law which has been criticized as being open to false allegations by those wishing to settle scores. This no doubt was exactly what  happened to Asia Bibi who maintains her death sentence was a result of false accusations by Muslims with whom she had an argument over grossly offensive insults by them based on religion.

 As the unknown AFP writer (Why was the name hidden? Are Saudis and Indonesians or the authorities in those countries that vindictive? Does it show something else too?) correctly pointed out, many or most Indonesians and Muslims in general get outraged if some alleged or actual wrong is done to them, but are not concerned about the crimes committed by those on their side, such as the occupation of West Paupa by Indonesia which has already killed a fifth of the population there. There is hypocrisy and double standards here. It might be that such Muslims are not hypocritical, but are supremacists who do not view non-Muslims as equal and so are not outraged when crimes are committed against them.

 The Saudi ambassador's denial, of the maid problem is the same as the denial, aka Taqiyya, of Islamic terrorism and other problem by Muslims. The denial here might have something to do with protecting the so-called 'honor' or 'sensitivities' in PC newspeak. But the truth is that such lying will only bring dishonor and make things worse by hiding the real problem and not dealing with it.

In August, another Sri Lankan, T. Ariyawathi, returned to Sri Lanka with 24 nails in her arms, legs and forehead, and claimed her Saudi Arabian employers nailed them as punishment. Saudi authorities however have questioned the credibility of her allegations.

 Given the recent new revelations, Ariyawathi's case should be revisited and the credibility of the Saudi authorities who investigated her claims questioned.

 The jealous wife torturing Sumiati looks similar to the burning of Coptic Christian homes in an Egyptian village a few days ago by young Muslim men over claims of a secret meeting between a Muslim girl and a Christian boy there.

 Finally, these cases of abuse, when combined with other evidence, such as 'honor killings,' sexism, cruel sharia punishments, terrorism, lack of freedom and numerous other examples that can be seen on daily news, might indicate there might be some underlying violence in those Islamic cultures that needs to be addressed. The usual approach of 'isolated' or 'micro-context' explanations do not take this into account this bigger picture. The thing to notice is not how or why each problem arises but to see the big picture and recognize that it happens in those groups and do so regularly and quite predictably. It is the clouds that are the problem and trying to catch each raindrop with a bucket to stop the rain is not a solution. Sooner or later it will still rain, somewhere, somehow, for some reason.

 Lechchami, 38, said she was forcefully given a drink which made her unconscious, and woke up to find 14 nails hammered² into her hands and left leg.¹ Surgeons in Sri Lanka, who have so far removed nine of the nails, say Lechchami told them her employers in Kuwait, a husband and wife couple, nailed them when she asked for her salary after working for six months.¹ Authorities are investigating the claim.^1,2 

 In August, another Sri Lankan, T. Ariyawathi, returned to Sri Lanka with 24 nails² in her arms, legs and forehead, and claimed her Saudi Arabian employers nailed them as punishment.¹  Saudi authorities however have questioned the credibility of her allegations.²  

[The claims here are not proven yet and it is not know if the accused are Muslims, but it is something to watch out for given other proven terrorist atrocities and the general brutality among many Muslims.]

Days after Pakistan sentenced Christian woman to death for blasphemy, Muslim countries will vote again at the UN for global blasphemy law

 Only days after a Christian woman, Asia Bibi, was sentenced to death for blasphemy in Pakistan, U.N. members will again vote this week on the resolution “On Combating Defamation of Religions” put forward by Organization of the Islamic Conference, made up of 57 states with large Muslim populations.³ The resolution calls for a ban on expressions which offend religious sensibilities. Pakistan has been pushing for an international blasphemy law since 1999.³

 Freedom House's Paula Schriefer wrote in the New York Times that it was hypocritical that countries with appalling religious and other human right records, such as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt were pushing for the resolution.³ He also pointed out that blasphemy laws were used to suppress religious minorities and those dissenting from orthodoxy, or simply to settle personal scores.³

 According to AsiaNews.it, the National Commission on Justice and Peace (NCJP) of the Catholic Church recorded 974 people being charged for “defiling the Qur'an or insulting the Prophet Muhammad” between 1986 and August 2009 in Pakistan.²  Christians and Ahmadis (who do not consider Muhammad the last prophet) there made up less than 2 percent of the population but accounted for nearly half of the cases during the last two decades, showing how minorities were disproportionately targeted.³

 Deacon Keith Fournier wrote on Catholic Online that,

This so called "Blasphemy Law" is in actuality an instrument of oppression with which Christians and other religious believers are persecuted by Islamic supremacists.”²

 The Catholic League, which is an anti-defamation organization, also claim that blasphemy laws were

designed to give Islamist nations the right to plunder the religious rights of non-Muslims—under the guise of fighting religious intolerance!¹

 It said that “it is one thing to issue a news release, conduct a letter-writing campaign, call for a boycott or hold a street demonstration; it is quite another to criminalize offensive speech” and has urged for the resolution to be voted down.¹

[Theo Van Gogh was murdered in 2004, on the 2nd of this month, by a Muslim for making a short film called "Submission" that was considered blasphemous. Molly Norris, who a few months ago urged people to draw pictures of Muhammad as an exercise of free speech has had to changed her name and go into hiding following FBI advice, after death threats. The threat from Muslims is there. The only difference is tactical, between those who openly use violence and those who engage in stealth jihad and lawfare, playing the victim card, while issuing death sentences, such as those at the U.N. on this issue.]

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula claims plane crash in September and parcel bomb plot, says Saudis helped Jews by foiling them

 Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has claimed responsibility for the recent foiled airmail parcel bomb plot and the crash of a UPS plane in Dubai on September 3. They accuse the Saudis of "collaboration with the Jews" for thwarting their latest plot involving parcel bombs airmailed to Jewish synagogues in Chicago.

Official Saudi fatwa issued against women cashiers but employers say will only act if government asks

The fatwa banning women from working as cashiers was issued six days¹ ago by Saudi Arabia's Senior Scholars Council, the top Saudi Islamic authority and the official fatwa-issuing body.

The reason for the ruling by Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh and six members of the council was that it would result in the mixing of unrelated men and women, which was forbidden. The ruling said women should not attract men or be attracted by men at work.

The fatwa challenges³ government policy by going against labour ministry approval for women working as cashiers in a move to have more of them working.¹

Although fatwas are not laws, they can be cited in court,¹ as sharia is the legal code of the country.²

Despite the fatwa, women were still working and their employers said they will only act if required to do so by the labour ministry.¹

US to sell Saudis $US60 billion worth of arms

 The Obama administration plans to sell the Wahabbi Saudi Arabian absolute monarchy military equipments which includes 84 F-15s, 70 Apaches, 72 Black Hawks, several Little Bird helicopters and upgrade of 70 used F-15s. The Saudis are anxious of Iranian Shiite theocracy's missiles and this deal is aimed at countering Iran. The sale will be spread over 15 to 20 years and will need to be approved by Congress first.

Was race a factor in the murder of a Black man treated like a slave by the homosexual Saudi prince?

 Homosexual Saudi prince Saud Abdulaziz bin Nasser al Saud has be found guilty by a London jury of murdering his alleged male partner Bandar Abdulaziz, who is Black, and has been sentenced to a minimum of 20 years in prison. Saud claimed they were "friends and equals" when it really was a "master-servant relationship". A witness, George Koni, told the court that Abdulaziz was treated "just like a slave". This is consistent with other evidence such as the beatings caught on camera and other injuries found on Abdulaziz's body. Although race does not appear to have been mentioned in court, it could be that Saud's behavior was born partly out of racism and that he was using the Black man as both a physical and sexual slave.

 There is report of an old man marrying off his young daughter for a car in Saudi Arabia, according to Al-Watan Arabic, a leading Saudi Arabian reformist newspaper. According to ArabNews.com, the story was written by three Al-Watan reporters, Abdullah Al-Nahdi, Aziza Yami and Badour Al-Asiri.

Girl, 12, marries man, 55, in Saudi Arabia, following example of Muhammad's marriage to Aisha, 6

 A 55 year old man has married a 12 old girl in Jazan province, Saudi Arabia. She was married to the man by the local Muslim cleric Sheikh Saeed bin Masoud Al Yami, after she and her father gave consent. Her uncle however alleges the man took advantage of her father's financial difficulties and that she was actually sold for 40,000 Saudi dollars. The Muslim cleric said there was no law against such marriages and that he has also married a 10 year old girl to a 30 year old man two years ago.¹

 There are also reports, probably referring to the same as the case mentioned above, of a mazoun or a marriage official in Najran city, Najran, Saudi Arabia, marrying a 12 year old girl and consummating the marriage two months later, at the urging of his mother, despite the father of the girl asking him to wait a year before having physical realtionship. Many in the country, including senior clerics such as the Grand Mufti of the nation, Sheikh Abdul Aziz al Sheikh, supports child marriages, citing Muhammad's example.²

Islamic prophet Muhammad married six year old Aisha and consummated the marriage (had sex with her) when she was nine, according to Sahih al-Bukhari 7:62:64³
