Saudi Arabia says a man disguised a woman and shot dead in a shootout last week was an an al-Qaida operative Mohammed Issam Tahir al-Baghdadi, who entered the country from Yemen

al-Baghdadi [who had earlier entered Saudi Arabia from neighboring Yemen] was disguised as woman


An earlier report from Reuters,

Saudi security forces shot dead a suspected al Qaeda militant and arrested another after one of them opened fire at agents at a checkpoint on Friday, the interior ministry said.

One of the two men, who was disguised as a woman, opened fire after their car was stopped at the checkpoint in the central town of Wadi al-Dawasir, said Mansour al-Turki, the ministry's security spokesman.

Al-Qaida in Yemen has claimed responsibility for a suicide car bomb attack on Wednesday against a convoy of cars in Norther Yemen.

They described Shiites as "despicable plants" to be uprooted, in their statement, appearing on extremist websites.

A tribal chief blamed Al-Qaeda for the attack but rebel spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam told AFP that [the attack was an attempt by] "American and Israeli intelligence services to plunge Yemen into confessional and tribal conflict."

The tribal chief sounded just like the Shiite Iranians who blame everything bad on the Americans and Zionists (Jews).

Yet another unsurprising news.

Suicide car bomber kills 1, injures 8 in attack on mourners heading to funeral of Badreddin al-Huthi, spiritual leader of Yemen's Shiite Huthi rebels

 A convoy of three cars was attacked in Saada province, a stronghold of Yemen's Shiite rebels, as they were heading to Dahyan near the Saudi border for the funeral.¹

 The attack on Friday follows a similar suicide car bomb attack on Wednesday that killed 23 Shiites.^1,2  

 Badreddin al-Huthi¹ or Badr al-Din al-Houthi,² 86, had long suffered from asthma¹ and died of natural causes.²

 He was the spiritual leader of the Houthi rebel movement, named after the Houthi clan.²

 The rebels from the Zaidi sect of Shi'ite Islam have long fought the government over complaints of social, religious and economic discrimination.²

 A ceasefire in February halted the fighting that displaced 350,000, but there had since been sporadic clashes between the rebels and government-aligned tribes.²

The suicide car bomber attacked a convoy of cars heading for Al-Ghadeer celebration, which commemorates the anointment of Ali, a key Shiite figure, as successor to Mohammed. 

It killed 23 supporters and fighter of the Zaidi Shiite rebels, who are in an uneasy truce with the government, including tribal chief Hussein bin Ahmed bin Hadhban and his son.

Al-Jawf province where the attack took place is in the Sunni majority country's north where the minority Shiites make up the majority.

Comment: Yemen might be heading for Iraqi style Sunni-Shiite civil war and terror attacks.

Abdulsalam is playing the 'blame game' against the U.S. and Israel, which is similar to what Shiite Iran has also been accused of doing.

He might also be trying to discredit his group's opponents in the eyes of anti-American and anti-Israel public or sections of it there by linking them to the U.S. and Israel.

British PM Cameron vows to cut out “terrorist cancer” in the Arabian Peninsula

 British prime minister David Cameron has told Parliament that Britain would "take every step to cut out the terrorist cancer that lurks in the Arabian Peninsula", after an airmail parcel bomb sent from Yemen to Jewish synagogues in Chicago was intercepted in Britain.

Two Yemeni airfreight parcel bombs intercepted en route to Chicago synagogues, one of them for gay Jews

 The bombs sent from Yemen were intercepted on a UPS cargo plane in England,³ and at a Fedex facility in Dubai,³ after a Saudi tipoff.⁴

 Although the bombs were sent to Chicago synagogues,³ one which was Or Chadash that serves gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Jew,¹ British Prime Minister David Cameron said the bomb found in England was designed to explode on the plane.³

 Around 60 per cent of US bound cargo is flown in on passenger planes, meaning the bombs, which were powerful enough to bring down a plane, could easily have brought down one of them.³

 Al-Qaeda in the Arabian peninsula is suspected of being behind the plot since PETN explosives, used by them in the past, such in Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab's failed under wear bomb,² was also used this time in one of the bombs, placed inside a computer² printer's ink tonger cartridge.⁴

 Hanan Al-Samawi,² a fifth-year Engineering student at Sanaa University, in the Yemeni capital, has been arrested under suspicion⁵ of mailing the packages. Her mother, Amatulillah Mohammed, has been detained along with her.²
