The court heard that the group, which was believed to be training to carry out Mumbai-style attacks by small groups of suicide gunmen, had also targeted political figures in the capital Jakarta.
Two men involved in a shooting that wounded German Red Cross staffer Erhard Bauer in Aceh last year, received the stiffest punishment of eight years in jail.
The two, Andri Marlan Syahputra and Chairul Fuadi, were also found guilty of taking part in a shooting of a house rented by two US student teachers and a grenade attack at the United Nations office in the provincial capital.

Comments: The sentences seems very light.
The UN, Red Cross and US teachers were probably there to help Ache recover from the 2004 earth quake and tsunami that killed possibly over 200,000 there and that's the thank they get from the Islamic terrorists.

Indonesian Muslim cleric Abu Bakar Bashir charged with terror offenses, including “inciting” terrorism, in relation to Ache terror camp

Comments: It is good that the Indonesians are charging Bashir, but the chief of Indonesian police General Timur Pradopo was the founding member of stick-wielding Islamic extremist vigilante group Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) and there is also the problem of West Papua where 100,000 or 20 percent of the population has died under Indonesian occupation.

And a few days before that US embassy cables released by WikiLeaks showed that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Islamist foreign policy advisor Ahmet Davutogluwas were susceptible to Islamist conspiracy theories - some of them pulled from the web.
Also a few days ago, Anis Saputra, 24, and Kiki Hanafilia, 17, both married, were caned under Islamic sharia law for kissing each other in Aceh.
Could there be a link between the fact that Ache is a staunch Islamic province which implements Sharia law and that a terror camp was found in that sharia province?

Anis Saputra, 24, and Kiki Hanafilia, 17, both married, caned under Islamic sharia law for kissing each other in Aceh province, Indonesia
They received eight lashes each in front of hundreds of people at a mosque in the city of Jantho after being caught having an extramarital kiss.
'In October, two women were caned in Aceh [one of several Indonesian provinces which have adopted sharia] for selling food during the fasting hours of Ramadan.'

Comments: Adultery is not the main issue here. What is important is that this is Islamic sharia religious punishment that is on a continuum [although probably not applied in Indonesia] to wife and child beatings, forcing women to wear the veil and not allowing them to mix with unrelated men at all or drive, as is the case in Saudi Arabia, limp amputations for theft, stoning to death for adultery, death for 'insulting' Islam (blasphemy) and apostasy (leaving Islam), and other cruel and 'barbaric' 7th century 'primordial' punishments that are also repressive and discriminates against people from other religions in many ways.
And as usual, those fake 'Human Rights' advocates, both Muslims and Liberal left elites, won't speak out (if they do, instead of covering-up, then its likely to be token) against things like these, while severely criticizing much more minor or irrelevant issues in other religions, especially Christianity, and labeling legitimate criticisms of Islam and Muslims as 'bigotry', 'hate' and 'Islamophobia' (That's their kind of 'free speech' and 'freedom of expression'. You are free to speak and express as it long as it all positive and do not mention the ugly deadly truths.)
Muslims also like to portray themselves as being more sexually pure, but this is not the case. For example, in the Koran, good Muslim men are promised food, drinks and sex with women (some dark eyed and some allegedly with large breasts) as a reward in heaven for obeying their god Allah. They are also allowed to marry up to four wives and in the case of Shiite Iran, unlimited number of 'temporary' wives. Read comments on this article for an example and a bit more information.

Murder and dumping of Indonesian maid Kikim and torture of Sumiati in Saudi Arabia being 'deceitfully' dismissed as "very rare" cases
Indonesian maid7 Kikim Komalasari binti Uko Marta,10 36,4 from Cianjur, West Java,8 was allegedly 'killed by her employers and her body dumped on a roadside'4 in Saudi Arabia. Other reports say her body was dumped in 'garbage skip'9 or at 'a dumpster.'10
Indonesia's labour minister Muhaimin Iskandar said her 'neck had been slashed and she had severe cuts to the rest of her body.'4
Anis Hidayah, executive director of a local NGO Migrant Care, said she allegedly was 'sexually and physically abused before her death.'10
This comes only a few days after news emerged that another Indonesian maid, Sumiati binti Salan Mustapa, 23, from Dompu in West Nusa Tenggara,6 was admitted to a hospital unconscious after being tortured by the wife of her employer.5
This claim has been described as "deceitful" by Anis, who said his organization has recorded 5,563 allegations of abuse this year in Saudi Arabia, including 1,090 physical abuse, 3,568 poor working conditions and 898 sexual and nonpayment of salary cases.10
Saudi Arabia calims 'foreign workers' rights are protected under Islamic law'4 but Amnesty International's Malcolm Smart said "legal climate of impunity that allows employers to exploit, enslave, abuse, assault and injure their domestic workers with virtual impunity" exists in the Gulf states and has called for it to end.2
Human Rights Watch also said workers in Saudi Arabia have few rights and that the 'abuse is systemic' but is "hidden" in people's homes.4
There has been outrage in Indonesia over the abuses with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono saying the murder of Kikim was "beyond inhumane"4 and calling Sumiati's abuse an "extraordinary torture."3

Comment: Things to note here are the inadequacies of 'Islamic law', the hypocritical outrage among some Indonesians, 'denialism' by the Saudis and another hint of a possible underlying culture of violence in sections of those societies.
The abuse cases indicate that 'Islamic law' is open to abuse here, just as it was in the case of the Pakistani blasphemy law which has been criticized as being open to false allegations by those wishing to settle scores. This no doubt was exactly what happened to Asia Bibi who maintains her death sentence was a result of false accusations by Muslims with whom she had an argument over grossly offensive insults by them based on religion.
As the unknown AFP writer (Why was the name hidden? Are Saudis and Indonesians or the authorities in those countries that vindictive? Does it show something else too?) correctly pointed out, many or most Indonesians and Muslims in general get outraged if some alleged or actual wrong is done to them, but are not concerned about the crimes committed by those on their side, such as the occupation of West Paupa by Indonesia which has already killed a fifth of the population there. There is hypocrisy and double standards here. It might be that such Muslims are not hypocritical, but are supremacists who do not view non-Muslims as equal and so are not outraged when crimes are committed against them.
The Saudi ambassador's denial, of the maid problem is the same as the denial, aka Taqiyya, of Islamic terrorism and other problem by Muslims. The denial here might have something to do with protecting the so-called 'honor' or 'sensitivities' in PC newspeak. But the truth is that such lying will only bring dishonor and make things worse by hiding the real problem and not dealing with it.

The jealous wife torturing Sumiati looks similar to the burning of Coptic Christian homes in an Egyptian village a few days ago by young Muslim men over claims of a secret meeting between a Muslim girl and a Christian boy there.
Finally, these cases of abuse, when combined with other evidence, such as 'honor killings,' sexism, cruel sharia punishments, terrorism, lack of freedom and numerous other examples that can be seen on daily news, might indicate there might be some underlying violence in those Islamic cultures that needs to be addressed. The usual approach of 'isolated' or 'micro-context' explanations do not take this into account this bigger picture. The thing to notice is not how or why each problem arises but to see the big picture and recognize that it happens in those groups and do so regularly and quite predictably. It is the clouds that are the problem and trying to catch each raindrop with a bucket to stop the rain is not a solution. Sooner or later it will still rain, somewhere, somehow, for some reason.

Her body shows how badly she was treated."5Didi Wahyudi, head of the citizen service and protection task force of the Indonesian Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, said concerning the attacker that6
"She was jealous of Sumiati who is young and beautiful so she tortured her"6Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Indonesia, Abdulrahman Al-Khayyat, claimed what happened to Sumiati was "a very rare case."10

In August, another Sri Lankan, T. Ariyawathi, returned to Sri Lanka with 24 nails in her arms, legs and forehead, and claimed her Saudi Arabian employers nailed them as punishment. Saudi authorities however have questioned the credibility of her allegations.Given the recent new revelations, Ariyawathi's case should be revisited and the credibility of the Saudi authorities who investigated her claims questioned.

Video shows barbaric torture of Black Papuans by Indonesian occupiers in West Papua where genocide has already killed a fifth of the population
The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has made public a video it received showing the recent torture of Black Melanesian West Papuans by Indonesian soldiers in the Tingginambut area near Puncak Jaya in West Papua. The video shows soldiers kicking the head Papuans sitting on grass, slapping and threatening one with a knife to the face and throat, and stepping on the chest of a tied up naked man lying on the ground before burning his genitals with a burning stick while he screams.
West Papua has been under a genocidal Indonesian occupation since 1963, when the Dutch left. Over 100,000 or a fifth of the population has been killed by military action since then. Journalists, human right workers and academics are barred from traveling there. Although the area is rich in resources, the people there live in poverty under brutal repression where peaceful expression of opinion, rallies or raising pro-independence flags results in long prison sentences.

Jihad warriors attack shadow puppet shows in Indonesia
Laskar Jihad [warriors of jihad] have been attacking shadow puppet shows in Sukoharjo, a town south of Solo by throwing rocks, brandishing swords and shouting "Allahu Akbar” (“Allah is great!"). Some witnesses suggest the drinking of alcohol by some spectators might have been the cause.

Nominee for Chief of Indonesian police reportedly a founding member of extremist Islamist group
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's nominee for chief of Indonesian police, General Timur Pradopo, 54, was reportedly a founding member in 1998 of the stick-wielding Islamic extremist vigilante group Islamic Defenders Front (FPI). Timur attended FPI's anniversary celebrations earlier this year. Corruption is a problem in Indonesia with an "oligarchy" of mainly Javanese businessmen and generals, having influence from behind the scenes.
