A hundred people have already died in the week following the assassination. MQM represents the Mohajirs who are  descendants of Urdu-speakers who moved to Pakistan after the partition from India, and they have blamed the killings on Pashtun-based Awami National Party (ANP), which has boycotted the bye-election.
